SCAR TREATMENT
Scars tissue is dynamic and changeable.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This specialized scar treatment is designed to support the health, comfort, and function of scar tissue — whether your scars are recent or decades old. Scar tissue affects not only the site itself but also surrounding fascia, muscles, nerves, and lymphatic flow; this can lead to tightness, discomfort, and restricted movement, fluid flow, and nutrient delivery.
Using a blend of fascial work, myofascial release, muscle techniques, lymphatic drainage, and nerve re-training, this treatment helps to:
Improve the pliability and texture of scar tissue
Reduce adhesions and tension that limit movement
Support nerve function and retrain sensitivity in the affected area
Encourage healthy circulation and lymphatic flow to reduce swelling and discomfort
Restore a sense of ease and connection to your body
Each session is tailored to your healing process. It’s indicated for fibrosis that is superficial (on top of your skin) and deeper (on your organs), regardless of the location, severity, and age of the scar.
Scars I commonly work with include c-section, abdominoplasty, breast surgery, laporoscopic, surgical, endometriosis, ACL/MCL repair, fractures, cosmetic procedures, burns, and orthopedic injuries and surgeries.
We will take time at the end of the treatment to make sure you have some DIY techniques to help your recovery between sessions.

TESTIMONIALS
“Working with Sophie has been incredibly beneficial relating to my scar tissue. I have several scars, some old (surgery was decades ago) and new (surgery within the last year). Sophie has diligently worked on the pliability, and general comfort, of all my scars. Her deep understanding of scar tissue and her intuitive, skilled approach made each session feel productive and personalized. I’ve seen real, tangible improvements in the texture and flexibility of the scarred area, and it’s had a ripple effect on my overall movement and well-being. I’m very grateful for Sophie’s expertise and would recommend her to anyone dealing with similar issues.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Yes. Scar tissue continues to respond and change many years (decades!) after it first formed, for a few reasons -
Fascia is adaptive and responsive to touch and movement
The nervous system can be re-educated on areas of changed sensation
Circulation and lymph flow can be improved
Collagen (which is thrown down in a disorganized way in scars) can reorganize with the right input
Engaging with all these structures in massage can improve flexibility, comfort, appearance, and movement regardless of the scar’s age.

This treatment can support scars from surgeries (including C-section, joint replacements, mastectomy, top surgery, abdominal surgery, etc.), sports injuries, burns, or other medical procedures. Whether the scar is flat, raised, sensitive, or numb, we’ll take tailored approach to improve comfort and function.
-
Some scars disrupt normal nerve signaling, leading to numbness, tingling, or pain and oversensitivity. Through gentle touch and guided sensory techniques, we help “re-educate” the area - restoring clearer communication between the tissue and your nervous system. This can help reduce discomfort and re-establish a more integrated body map.
-
No. Scar work does not need to be painful to be effective. We use gentle, precise techniques that work with your body's tissues, not against them. You’ll always be in control of the pressure and pace, and there is plenty of space to pause, adjust, or check in during the session.
-
Often, yes — when the area has fully healed. We’ll also work on the surrounding tissue, fascial layers, and related structures (like muscles or nerves) that can be impacted by scarring. The work is holistic, and sometimes the most helpful shifts happen beyond the scar itself.
-
Yes. Scars can create tension patterns that affect posture, breath, and movement — even in areas that seem unrelated. Many clients notice ripple effects after treatment, like easier breathing, better range of motion, or reduced discomfort elsewhere in the body.
-
This depends on your goals, the complexity of the scar, and how your body responds. Some people feel a big difference after just one or two sessions, while others benefit from a series spaced out over time. We’ll work together to find what feels most supportive for you.
As part of the treatment I’ll demonstrate some at-home techniques to help your recovery long-term.

That’s completely okay, and common. Scars can carry emotional weight, especially if they’re linked to trauma, illness, or major life events. You only need to share as much as is medically relevant for a safe and consensual treatment.
If you have an emotional response during treatment, that’s completely fine (and normal!) - we can stop anytime, or I’m trained on how to guide you through that in a trauma-informed and non-judmental way. Nervous sytem safety is key to good results.
-
It’s important to wait until your incision is fully healed and you’ve been cleared by your surgeon or medical provider for hands-on work. This typically means there’s no open skin, drainage, signs of infection, or tenderness that would indicate inflammation.
For most people, this is around 6–8 weeks post-op, but it can vary depending on the type of surgery and your healing process. Once you're cleared, we can begin with gentle techniques like lymphatic drainage or fascial work, gradually building toward deeper tissue or nerve re-training if appropriate.

This treatment isn't for you if you have:
Active infection
Unhealed or open wounds
Recent surgical incisions (until cleared by a medical professional)
Cancer
Blood clots or high risk of blood clots in the area
Unexplained pain, heat, or swelling at the site
Skin breakdown or ulceration
Severe systemic illness or fever
Your scar has mesh under it - we can still treat but will need to modify. Please disclose on intake.
